Mar-Paul Company has been a family owned and operated business since the day John and Marilyn Bamford founded the company in June 1970. The name originated from the two most influential women in his life, his wife Marilyn and his mother Pauline. The Bamford family was the foundation of the company’s success and is a testament of John’s core values and code of ethics within the company. As a partnership John and Marilyn worked out of a one room office in the Petersburg section of Scranton with two carpenter employees. John estimated and managed the projects while Marilyn did all the necessary bookkeeping. They started out remodeling small kitchen and bathroom renovations and as the company grew so did the projects to homes and later to commercial, educational and industrial projects.
In 1990 John and Marilyn’s son, Robert joined the company as an estimator and project manager. Robert graduated from Colgate University in 1987, married and soon returned to the area from Boston to join the family business.
Over the course of a forty year span Mar-Paul has broaden its number of employees, but still the company has the same family feel. More than half of our personnel, form labors in the field to CFO have been with us for over 10 years. The projects went from small hundred thousand dollar projects to multi-million dollar projects. However the ethics were the same and that was a commitment to constructing the highest quality buildings in the most cost efficient manner and providing customer satisfaction.
